In December of 2015 I took my box van across country. I always dreamed of shooting New York City and I actually failed in this attempted trip a few years earlier. So you can guess I was excited. Funny thing was after the trip I wished I stopped at places I would have never thought of.
The Galveston Pleasure Pier was once the king of pleasure piers in the United States attracting an enormous number of tourists to Galveston Island beginning in the 1940s. The pier’s success ended in 1961 when the coast was hit by Hurricane Carla. 51 years later, the pier has been reborn as the Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier. The pier reopened in May of 2012 and has been a big hit especially to those who have fond memories of the original pleasure pier.
The one thing that did stick out about Galveston was the number of oil rigs off the coast and the amount of oil refining that is done here. Good for cheap gas.
